Amy Keisinger, Couples Counsellor

Hi, I'm Amy, a specialist in couples & relationship therapy.

I'm a registered counsellor based in Corrimal, Wollongong, specialising in couples and relationship therapy. I work with partners at all stages, from those wanting to strengthen a good relationship to those navigating serious challenges or considering separation.

I'm trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method, two of the most evidence-based approaches to couples counselling available. Rather than taking sides or assigning blame, I help both partners feel heard, and I work with you to understand the patterns that keep you stuck.

Couples counselling is available in person in Corrimal, serving the Wollongong area, Nowra, Jervis Bay and the Illawarra, as well as via secure telehealth for couples anywhere in Australia.

Common questions about couples counselling in Wollongong

Ideally, yes. Couples counselling works best when both partners attend together. That said, it's not always possible, especially at first. If your partner isn't ready or isn't willing to come, you're still very welcome to attend individually. Individual sessions can be just as valuable, helping you gain clarity, build communication skills, and sometimes create the space for your partner to become more open over time.
This is very common, and it's okay. Some people feel nervous, sceptical, or worried about what counselling involves. I'm happy to have an initial conversation with you alone, and if your partner has specific concerns or questions, they're welcome to reach out to me directly. There's no pressure. Going at the right pace matters.
Couples sessions are $220 for 50 minutes. Bupa health fund rebates are available for eligible members. Please check with your fund for your specific benefit. A limited number of concession spaces may also be available, so please get in touch if cost is a barrier.
Yes, absolutely. I offer secure telehealth sessions for couples anywhere in Australia, whether you're in Nowra, Jervis Bay, Kiama, Shoalhaven, or anywhere further afield. Online couples counselling can be just as effective as in-person sessions, and it's often more convenient, especially when coordinating two people's schedules.
I draw primarily on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method, two of the most research-backed approaches to couples counselling. EFT helps both partners understand and reshape the emotional patterns driving conflict and disconnection. The Gottman Method provides practical tools for improving communication, managing conflict, and deepening friendship and intimacy. I adapt my approach to suit each couple's needs and goals.
Every couple is different. Some see meaningful change in a handful of sessions; others prefer longer-term support. There's no set number and no pressure to commit upfront. We'll check in on your progress regularly and adjust the pace to suit where you are and what you need.
